Sichuan, the poorest region in China, is home to 65 million pigs, most of them on low-income family farms. The problem: each year, that pig manure releases millions of cubic meters of methane–a gas that warms our atmosphere 84 times faster than carbon over a 20 year period. So we’re helping replace open manure pits on individual farms with biogas digesters, mechanical stomachs that turn harmful methane into clean energy and natural fertilizer. Your donation this quarter helped maintain the 400,000 biogas digesters on poor rural pig farms throughout the Sichuan province.
