45,000

tonnes of CO₂ per year

Rajamma was married at age 15. Six kids were born in quick succession. After a leisurely childhood, her new life was a bit of a shock. Up at dawn, two hours to stoke fires and cook each meal for her family on the open fire, plus everything else. Kids, firewood, cook, farm, sleep. Do it again. She willingly accepted this life, cherished her family, but sometimes wished for just a few moments of time free from toil.

When Rajamma heard about the biogas digesters at a village meeting, she understood the possibilities immediately. With the help of this project, she built one for the house. No more firewood collecting, no more slow open fires, no more smoke in the house. Hours of Rajamma’s day became free, and she used them well. She earned a position teaching Indian culture at the local school. With the income she earned at her new job and the extra revenue from the organic fertilizer produced by her digester, she and her husband are educating their six children. The biogas digester gave her the gift of time, freedom, and the opportunity for a better life.

With your support, this project is eliminating over 45,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually, giving good people like Rajamma hope for better lives, and giving all of us hope in the fight against climate change. Now that is a reason for celebration.

Thank you for supporting this project, and Rajamma, in 2018.
